About the campaign:
An elderly man Paul has been fined by a judge for illegal hawking outside the Choi Hung MTR station.
This is the second time the hawker had been arrested for selling his traditional desserts – red bean, green bean and sago soup – for HKD12 a bowl.
He covered his first fine by borrowing the money off friends but was too embarrassed to ask them for help again. He was reportedly preparing to go to jail.
He has been asked to pay a HK$6,000 fine, but he is too poor to pay the fine and plans to pay HK$500 a month to settle it.
Pang said she found the man back in his usual spot near a minibus stop outside the Choi Hung MTR station after a short absence.
She said his disappearance might have been due to his arrest and prosecution.
Pang is encouraging passers-by and netizens to buy his soups — red beans, green beans and sago — which he sells for HK$12 per bowl.
Tsang insists that he will encourage the old man to let passersby sample his sweets for free if there is any excess money.
I want to encourage him to find another way to make money until I heard about CookHub.
That's why I started a compaign here and nominated Paul to be the master, hopefully he would earn money in a respectable way.
